Dr. Vikram Gota, MD, is currently a Professor at the Advanced Centre for Treatment, Research and Education in Cancer (ACTREC), Tata Memorial Centre (TMC), Mumbai, in the Department of Clinical Pharmacology. He earned his MD from Christian Medical College, Vellore, India, and went on to join the Indo-Oxford Cancer Trials Network (INDOX) at TMC where he trained in early phase clinical trials. Simultaneously, he completed the PG Diploma in Clinical Trials from the London School of Hygeine and Tropical Medicine. His department undertakes clinical pharmacokinetic studies, therapeutic drug monitoring and phase 1 clinical trials of anticancer drugs. One of his important contributions in the area of drug access highlighted quality issues related to certain generic anticancer drugs marketed in India, and brought to the fore the need for strict regulations for quality control of these products. His reserch also underscored the need for pediatric friendly formulations of drugs used in childhood cancers. He is currently developing liquid formulations of such drugs in association with local pharma companies. He is a founder member of the COnsortium for DosE optimization (CODE) whose primary ovjective is to deveop capacity for PK guided dose optimization in the Indian sub-continent.
