Cecilia P. Chung, MD, MPH, is currently an associate professor of Medicine, with appointments in the Divisions of Rheumatology and Clinical Pharmacology, at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. She earned her MD degree from Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos in her hometown of Lima, Peru. After completing rheumatology fellowship in Peru, she came to the United States and earned a Master of Public Health followed by Internal Medicine Residency and Rheumatology and Clinical Pharmacology fellowships at Vanderbilt and Johns Hopkins University. The overriding theme of her research addresses variation in drug response, with an emphasis on the safety of medications used by large numbers of people. She currently studies the pharmacogenomics of immunosuppressants and the comparative safety of non-opioid pain medications and her research is supported by the NIH and the Department of Veterans Affairs. She has published more than 100 original and review papers and has presented her work at national and international conferences. She is a member of ASCPT and currently serves on the editorial board of Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics.
