Dr. Sathej Gopalakrishnan is currently employed at Merck KGaA, Germany, as Director of Clinical Pharmacology within the Quantitative Pharmacology department. Sathej supports projects across theraputic areas including immunology and neuroscience. Prior to joining Merck, he worked for AbbVie in the Clinical Pharmacology and Pharmacometrics group and supported modeling and simulation activities for several molecules across various phases of drug development. He enjoys mentoring and has led a team of pharmacometricians working in oncology, virology, immunology and immuno-oncology.
He received his PhD in Systems Biology with a thesis on mathematical modeling of viral dynamics under the Graduate Research Training Program PharMetrX at University of Potsdam, Germany.
Sathej's research interests include both applied (e.g. incorporating appropriate model-based approaches in clinical pharmacology drug development) and theoretical (e.g. parameter estimation/identifiability as a nonlinear inverse problem) aspects. Sathej likes to leverage quantitative pharmacology models that lie at the sweet-spot between biological plausibility and practical utility to inform drug development.
