Gary Neil Prize for Innovation in Drug Development

Rene Levy, PhD, and Isabelle Ragueneau-Majlessi, MD
University of Washington Drug Interaction Database

Rene H. Levy, PhD, is Professor Emeritus at the University of Washington in Seattle where he served as chair of the Department of Pharmaceutics for 26 years. His interest in neuroscience grew out of his work in the field of epilepsy where he published more than 320 research articles and edited several books.

Dr. Ragueneau-Majlessi, MD, MS, is a Clinical Professor in the Department of Pharmaceutics at the University of Washington (UW). She is co-founder of the UW Drug Interaction Database (DIDB) and is currently the Director of UW Drug Interaction Solutions (www.druginteractioninfo.org), a research program dedicated to the mechanistic understanding and clinical management of pharmacokinetic drug-drug interactions (DDIs).

Cecilia Chung, MD, MPH
Vanderbilt University Medical Center

Cecilia P. Chung, MD, MPH, is currently an associate professor of Medicine, with appointments in the Divisions of Rheumatology and Clinical Pharmacology, at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. She earned her MD degree from Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos in her hometown of Lima, Peru.

Deanna Kroetz, PhD
University of California San Francisco

Deanna Kroetz is Professor and Chair of Bioengineering and Therapeutic Sciences and the Jere E. Goyan Chair for the Advancement of Pharmacy in the School of Pharmacy at the University of California San Francisco. She earned her BS in Pharmacy from The Ohio State University and her PhD in Pharmaceutics from the University of Washington, under the mentorship of Dr. Rene Levy.

Walter K. Kraft, MD
Thomas Jefferson University

Dr. Walter K. Kraft is an internist and a clinical pharmacologist. He is Professor of Pharmacology, Medicine and Surgery and is the director of the Clinical Research Unit at Thomas Jefferson University. He works primarily in Phase I therapeutics and has an interest in the development of novel treatments for the neonatal opioid withdrawal syndrome (NOWS).

Sandra Visser is the global head Oncology Clinical Pharmacology M&S at GlaxoSmithKline. Her group supports the oncology portfolio from candidate selection through approval into post-marketing. Sandra received her PhD in quantitative pharmacology from Leiden University in The Netherlands.

Hendrik Jan Guchelaar, PharmD, PhD
Leiden University

Henk-Jan Guchelaar studied Pharmacy at the University of Groningen, The Netherlands and specialized as a hospital pharmacist and clinical pharmacologist. Since 2003, he is employed as a clinical pharmacist and clinical pharmacologist and professor of clinical pharmacy and chair of the department of Clinical Pharmacy & Toxicology at Leiden University Medical Center.

Matthew McLaughlin, MD
Children's Mercy Hospital

Matt McLaughlin is a Pediatric Rehabilitation Medicine physician and Clinical Pharmacologist. His primary research centers on optimizing “the right medication for the right patient at the right time to improve outcomes.” He completed the MD/BA 6-year program at the University of Missouri-Kansas City prior to starting his fellowship at the University of Missouri-Columbia. After graduation from residency, he pursued a clinical Pediatric Rehabilitation Medicine fellowship at Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City.
