Johnson is a PhD candidate in Applied Swine Nutrition at Kansas State University. He was born and raised in Hsinchu, Taiwan. He found his interest in animal science while he was pursuing his undergraduate degree in National Chung Hsing University, Taiwan, from 2013 to 2017. After his military service, Johnson decided to pursue a graduate degree and joined Kansas State University as a M.S. student with the Applied Swine Nutrition Team in 2018. He competed his Masters in 2020 with research including the effects of fumonisin and mycotoxin mitigating products on nursery pig performance, alternative corn protein sources in nursery diets, and high-protein-DDGS in grow-finish pig diets.
His Ph.D. research included a variety of areas including nutritional strategy on slowing down late-finishing pig growth rate, compensatory growth of finishing pig, selenium sources on nursery pig growth and Se status, and sow lactation feeder design on sow and piglet performance. He also conducted a literature review on the effects of feed additives on grow-finish pig feed efficiency and carcass characteristics. Beside his graduate research, Johnson also managed, analyzed, and reported data for multiple large scale commercial research barns.
Johnson’s experience with swine research and extension has prepare him in protocol development, experimental design, large scale commercial research, diet formulation, data management, statistical analysis, and research reporting. He also has experience with preparation of scientific manuscript and literature review, and professional presentation. With his technical and language skills, Johnson would be particularly suitable for a technical service or research position with an ingredient or product supplier, and has the ability to support international markets.
