Julia Holen is a PhD candidate in Applied Swine Nutrition at Kansas State University, co-advised by Drs. Mike Tokach and Bob Goodband. Her PhD research focused on the effects of dietary essential fatty acids on piglet survival and sow reproductive performance. Additionally, Julia evaluated the influence of branched-chain amino acids on sow performance and the effects of increasing soybean meal on the growth performance of late-finishing pigs. Previously, Julia graduated from the University of Minnesota in 2019 with a M.S. degree in Animal Science (Swine Nutrition) advised by Dr. Lee Johnston. Her research evaluated the effects of supplemental zinc in late gestation sow diets on pre-weaning piglet survival and digestibility of zinc sources for gestating and lactating sows.
