Aakilah Hernandez has a Bachelor's degree in Animal Sciences and minor in International Studies in Agricultural and Life Sciences from the University of Florida (2020). Here she participated in multiple organizations such as Sigma Alpha and being a College of Agricultural and Life Sciences Ambassador for the university. Now she is currently working towards an M.S. in Animal Sciences with a concentration in Domestic Animal Genomics under Dr. Raluca Mateescu at the University of Florida. Born in Brooklyn, NY, but now a Florida local, Aakilah grew up in Melbourne, FL. She became interested in genetics after volunteering in undergraduate research with Dr. Mateescu on the Thermotolerance Project. She is working to understand the genetic control of sweat glands in beef cattle populations.
