Graduate Research Assistant
South Dakota State University
Brookings, South Dakota
My name is Shannon Dierking. I'm a PhD candidate at South Dakota State University, working under Dr. Crystal Levesque. My dissertation research focuses on gilt reproductive development and nutrition, specifically identification of biological markers to detect early estrus in pre-pubertal gilts, and the impact of lysine levels on gilt vaginal epithelium and age at first estrus. I plan to collaborate with faculty, staff and industry professionals to expand my knowledge of the swine industry. I owe a large debt of gratitude to everyone who has helped me learn and grow thus far in my career, and I hope to pay it forward.
