Phillip Lancaster, PhD, is a Research Assistant Professor with the Beef Cattle Institute at Kansas State University. He was born and raised on a family livestock and crop farm in west central Illinois. He earned his B. S. degree in Agricultural Science from Western Illinois University in 1999. He worked as assistant manager of a 2400-head capacity feedlot in Illinois for 3 years before returning for his M. S. degree in Animal Science in 2004 from the University of Missouri, and Ph. D. degree in Animal Science with an emphasis in ruminant nutrition in 2008 from Texas A&M University. Prior to joining Kansas State University, he has held positions at Oklahoma State University (Postdoc), University of Florida (Asst. Prof. Beef Cattle Management), and Missouri State University (Asst. Prof. Beef Cattle Production). His research efforts focus on developing strategies to enhance sustainability of beef production through identification of improved management practices. Phillip also teaches animal nutrition and beef production courses in Departments of Clinical Sciences and Animal Science. He and his wife, Sarah, have two boys, Levi, 9, and Caleb, 7.
