Elizabeth Salisbury-Afshar, MD, MPH is a family medicine, preventive medicine/public health, and addiction medicine physician and is an Associate Professor at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health in Madison, Wisconsin. She is core faculty for the Addiction Medicine Fellowship at the University of Wisconsin and her role involves both inpatient addiction medicine consult and outpatient addiction medicine care in a federally qualified health center. Most of Dr. Salisbury-Afshar's work has focused on expanding access to evidence based addiction treatment services and integration of behavioral health services into primary care settings. Past roles include serving as the Medical Director of Behavioral Health Systems Baltimore, as the Medical Director of Behavioral Health at the Chicago Department of Public Health, the Director of the Center for Addiction Research and Effective Solutions at the American Institutes for Research, and Medical Director of Heartland Alliance Health (Chicago-based healthcare for the homeless provider). She has over ten years of experience working clinically in federally qualified health centers- providing direct patient care in both primary care and addiction medicine treatment. She is actively involved in ASAM and currently serves as the Chair of the Fundamentals of Addiction Medicine Program, and as Vice-Chair of the Public Policy Committee, and a member of the Conference Planning Committee.
