Dr. Cuevas received her Bachelor of Science degree, summa cum laude, from the University of Notre Dame in 1997 and her M.D. degree from the University of Pittsburgh in 2001. She completed her internship and residency training in Internal Medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital. After completing residency in 2004, she took a dual appointment, worked in an outpatient academic primary care academic practice at the Massachusetts General Hospital and in various clinics in Boston with the Boston Health Care for the Homeless Program (BHCHP) where she served as the medical director for several homeless clinical sites in Boston.
Dr. Cuevas left Boston in 2011 and moved to Pittsburgh, joining the staff at Allegheny General Hospital. Her initial clinical time was devoted to the education of IM Residents at AGH, as a preceptor in outpatient clinic as well as an attending on the inpatient teaching teams. She worked as an Associate Program Director for the IM Residency Program from 2012 through 2018 before stepping down to the position of Core Faculty member with the residency program. Dr. Cuevas was one of the founders of the Center for Inclusion Health (CIH) at AHN in 2014 and assumed the role of Director of Primary Care Transformation for the IM Residency Clinics in 2018 and then Division Chief of Academic Internal Medicine in 2019. For CIH, she worked on projects including the implementation of an inpatient CIH rounding team, the medical respite program, a SDOH screening program, the behavioral health integration into primary care, and a CIH specialized track for medical residents interested in the work of CIH. In addition to her clinical and administrative duties, Dr. Cuevas played an active role in revitalizing an AHN system-wide Women in Medicine program to address issues of gender equity and wellness.
