Resident
University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics
Brigid Adviento (MD/MPH) is a 4th year internal medicine and psychiatry resident at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics (UIHC). She became interested in addiction medicine after rotating through the Addiction Clinic at UIHC. She saw a population that was stigmatized and given inadequate care by a healthcare system that is often inequitable and unequipped to deal with the complicated medical, psychiatric, and psychosocial underpinnings of substance use disorders. She is interested in combining her specialties of medicine and psychiatry to care for the patients with substance use disorders in outpatient and inpatient settings. Brigid received the ASAM Ruth Fox Scholarship in 2021. She received her MD/MPH from Tulane University and her BA from the University of Chicago. In Chicago, she engaged in community-based health research, which influenced her view that individual health is heavily influenced by environmental factors outside of individual control.
