Diane Alejo has worked the Division of Cardiac Surgery at Johns Hopkins since 1984. As Director of Informatics in the Department of Surgery she has oversight of the Surgery Clinical Informatics Team, the CV Surgery Clinical Registry Team and serves on the Advisory Board on The Johns Hopkins Center for Outcomes Research (JSCOR). Diane has been active in the Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS) since 1988, is an STS Associate Member and is currently on the STS National Database Committee, the STS Quality Measurement Task Force, the STS Informatics Task Force and the STS Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning Workgroup. She has held numerous positions on Johns Hopkins Data, Quality and Research Committees and sits on the JH Clinical Registry Review Council. In addition to her years of working with clinical data management, reporting and research she has lectured at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health – Introduction to Clinical Research / Analysis of Electronic Health Records for Research. She has over 60 peer reviewed publications in the field of Cardiac Surgery. Diane is also the Co-founder of the Maryland Cardiac Surgery Quality Initiative (MCSQI) and Co-Chair of the MCSQI Research & Writing Committee. She has held the position of MCSQI Executive Director and Co-Chair of the MCSQI Quality Committee. She is an Affiliate Member of the American College of Surgeons and Associate Member of the Society of Southern Thoracic Surgical Association.
