Kathleen Grady, PhD, RN, MS is Professor of Surgery, Division of Cardiac Surgery and Medicine, Division of Cardiology at the Feinberg School of Medicine at Northwestern University and Administrative Director, Center for Heart Failure of the Bluhm Cardiovascular Institute at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, Chicago, IL. She has a background in cardiovascular nursing, notably as an advanced practice provider for patients with advanced heart failure. Dr. Grady is an internationally recognized researcher, who has focused on health-related quality of life (HRQOL) and psychosocial / behavioral issues of advanced heart failure patients who undergo mechanical circulatory support (MCS) and heart transplantation. Her research has been supported by the American Heart Association (AHA) and National Institutes of Health (i.e., NINR, NIA, and NHLBI). Dr. Grady has also worked closely with INTERMACS and published important findings regarding HRQOL of registry participants. Dr. Grady has received many awards, including the prestigious AHA Distinguished Scientist award and AHA Council on Cardiovascular and Stroke Nursing Katherine A. Lembright Award in recognition of her lifetime research achievements.
