Rebecca Harap, BSN, RN-BC, graduated in 2002 from Illinois Wesleyan University with a Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing and immediately began her career at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in the Cardiovascular Thoracic Surgical Stepdown Unit (CVT). Ms. Harap quickly transitioned to the Cardiovascular Transplant Intensive Care Unit (CTICU) and found her skills were best utilized through the challenging and compassionate care of the acutely ill. In 2005, she became the Education Coordinator for the CTICU and found her true passion in education. Ms. Harap continued in the role of Education Coordinator, as the role expanded to encompass the Coronary Care Unit (CCU), CVT Surgical Stepdown, Heart Failure Cardiology Unit, and Central Telemetry Monitoring Unit. In 2011, Ms. Harap was promoted to Practice Manager over the aforementioned units. During her career with the cardiology/cardiac surgery patient population Ms. Harap became intrigued with the Ventricular Assist Device (VAD) population. She transitioned into the role of VAD coordinator in 2013. Her commitment to education continues to be highlighted into this role through the education of VAD patients, their caregivers, and the staff caring for the VAD population. As a VAD coordinator, Ms. Harap has contributed to numerous quality initiatives and research projects. She acts as the INTERMACS site administrator at her institution and is a member of the INTERMACS CORE Group.
