Dr. Marshall Jacobs has been a congenital heart surgeon for over 30 years and serves as Professor of Surgery and Director of Pediatric Cardiac Surgery Outcomes Research at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. His current concentration is in outcomes research and improvement of quality of care. Dr. Jacobs was the first Chair of the STS Workforce on Congenital Heart Surgery. He is a past Chair of the Society of Thoracic Surgeons Congenital Heart Surgery Database (STS-CHSD) Taskforce (2014-2017), having also served in that role from 2002-2003, during which time much of the fundamental structure of the database was developed. He is the immediate past chair of the STS Congenital Heart Surgery Access and Publications Committee. He is also Past-President of the Congenital Heart Surgeons’ Society (2014-2016), having served previously as Chair of that organization’s Research Committee for eight years. Dr. Jacobs has authored more than 350 manuscripts published in peer reviewed journals and has extensive experience in analyses involving the STS Congenital Heart Surgery Database and linkage of these data to data from other sources. Over the course of the past decade, he has led and/or collaborated with numerous research teams on multiple projects involving analysis of outcomes across multi-institutional cohorts of patients undergoing surgery for congenital heart disease. Dr. Jacobs is the Founding Editor of World Journal for Pediatric and Congenital Heart Surgery and served as Editor-in-Chief of the journal from 2010 through June 2022.
