Moritz C. Wyler von Ballmoos, MD, PhD, MPH is the Director of Minimally Invasive Cardiac Surgery and a Professor of Cardiac Surgery at the University Hospital Zurich & University of Zurich, Switzerland. He specializes in complex valve surgery, minimally-invasive cardiac surgery techniques & transcatheter therapies. His interests include surgical valve repair techniques, minimally-invasive & robotic surgery, new transcatheter technology, and healthcare quality. With a background in statistics & epidemiology, Dr. Wyler von Ballmoos is actively involved in many trials investigating treatments for aortic, mitral, and tricuspid valve pathologies. He is passionate about education, a sought-after faculty at international meetings, and is widely published in the peer-reviewed literature, including publications in prestigious journals such as New England Journal of Medicine, JAMA, and JACC. Dr. Wyler von Ballmoos is the recipient of numerous awards for his research and teaching efforts and a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology and the American Heart Association. He is appointed to multiple leadership positions within STS, EACTS, ACC, and ISMICS. He currently serves as the Chair of the Task Force on Evidence for Adult Cardiac Surgery and the Vice Chair of the Workforce on Evidence-Based Surgery for the STS. Dr. Wyler von Ballmoos has played a significant role in establishing the risk models, performance metrics, and quality initiatives of the STS.
