Catherine Ostroski, DNP, RN, CENP, is a retired Lean Six Sigma certified nurse administrator, most recently employed at NewYork Presbyterian (NYP) Hospital for 26 years in the departments of nursing, quality and operations.
In 1996, after joining NYP, Dr. Ostroski served as nurse manager, overseeing two surgical units, and was later appointed as Director for Pre- and Post-op Care, where she developed her team as perioperative services grew in size, tripling the post-op bed capacity.
While serving in the Quality Department at NYP as a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt, Dr. Ostroski directed vital hospital projects including length of stay reduction, redesign of the patient plan of care, and improvements for patient discharge planning. During her last 10 years at NYP, Dr. Ostroski was promoted to Director of Perioperative Services at the Columbia University Irving Medical Center campus, covering: adult and Edward Harkness Eye Institute operating rooms; cystoscopy, endoscopy and bronchoscopy suites; pre- and post-op units; and operating room scheduling.
Earlier, Dr. Ostroski completed her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at San Francisco State University, and started her career as a step-down and later an ICU nurse. She worked in MICU and CTICU settings for 10 years. After completing her Master of Nursing Science degree at Hunter College, Dr. Ostroski advanced to nursing administration and education, working as a nurse manager at Beth Israel Medical Center and as an adjunct nursing professor at Long Island University.
In 2018, Dr. Ostroski completed her Doctorate in Nursing Practice at the University of Scranton. She maintains certification in Executive Nursing Practice (CENP).
Dr. Ostroski retired in 2017 and remains an active member of the Retired Nurses Specialty Assembly, currently serving as the chair. In April 2022, Dr. Ostroski will begin work with The Joint Commission as a nurse surveyor for ambulatory centers nationally.
