Torrance Higgins is the Director of Peak Performance for the Department of Veterans Affairs Warriors to Workforce (W2W) Program and HRS Consulting, Inc.’s Mental Performance and Resilience Optimization (MPRO) Program Manager. Prior to joining HRS Consulting, Inc., she served as the Tactical Mental Conditioning Coach for the Army’s Special Operations Aviation Regimen (SOAR). For the past seven years, the objective of her work has been to enhance the performance, resilience and well-being of soldiers, service-connected disabled veterans and civilians by training them to self-regulate under a variety of conditions, ranging from low-stress to high-stress work environments. A primary emphasis of Dr. Higgins’ training programs is to teach people how to monitor and self-regulate physiological and cognitive processes that may impact performance, then develop lasting, reliable strategies to effectively drive performance enhancements. Dr. Higgins quantifiably improves psychomotor and cognitive performance by using a multimethod approach, composed of biometric, neuropsychological and affective training strategies. She is an expert at effectively translating cutting-edge scientific research for nontechnical audiences to promote the application of performance psychology skills and techniques, including stress-management, emotional intelligence, attention control, and resilience promotion. She has published seven refereed journal articles and book chapters, and her work has been funded by NIH. She holds adjunct faculty positions at Towson University and George Washington University. She received her Ph.D. in Applied Physiology and Kinesiology, with a concentration in Biobehavioral Science, from the University of Florida.
