Robert G Hess, Jr, PhD, RN, FAAN, is the Founder of the Forum for Shared Governance and webmaster for www.sharedgovernance.org. He is the author of the only instruments for measuring governance in healthcare organizations, used globally in 11 languages in 300 healthcare systems, and coauthor of a new instrument, Council Health, which measures shared governance councils' effectiveness. He is coauthor of the only current book on implementing shared governance and the world's leading researcher on shared governance.
Dr. Hess is retired as the former Executive Vice President, Chief Clinical Executive, OnCourse Learning, Healthcare, and Nurse.com (formerly Nursing Spectrum), its formal representative, thought leader, and network connection to client and professional organizations in the healthcare and education industries; an internal consultant for management, healthcare, and education areas; creator for its communications for healthcare-related publications; supervisor of heath research endeavors; and the real creator of CE Direct.
For 25 yrs he was the Executive Vice President, Education Programs & Credentialing, leading the largest CE providerships in the world for nurses and dietitians, as well as 22 additional health professions, including physicians and pharmacists. In 2016, he granted four million CE contact hours through more than 3,000 currently active educational activities in all modes of delivery. The interprofessional team he left behind coordinates the development of educational activities with thousands of authors and reviewers. He still has a heavy influence in these activities.
Dr. Hess was also the career blogger for Nurse.com, and is currently Founder and Blogger for the Career Whisperer and webmaster for www.careerwhisaperer.org. He is the author of two books and more than 200 articles, book chapters, and videos.
