Patti Owens provides consultation services in medical, surgical, and aesthetic laser safety programs and in-office management compliance services. She is presently a national consultant for a variety of medical laser companies and organizations including Rockwell Laser Industries. Patti is currently working with Dr. Mark Sofonio, Board Certified Plastic Surgeon, as a clinical, compliance, and administrative assistant in Rancho Mirage, California. Patti’s past employment includes 15 years as the perioperative Surgical Educator and Laser Manager at Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia, WA.
Patti has been an active member of AORN for 29 years, serving both in Olympia, WA, and now #9991 eChapter. Patti has served as the Chairman of the eChapter Education Committee from 2017-2019. She is presently the acting Secretary for the eChapter Board of Directors. In addition, Patti is the AORN representative on the ANSI SSC-3 “Safe Use of Lasers in Health Care”. She also was selected as a Subject Matter Expert for the 2020 new AORN “Guideline for Laser Safety”. In addition, Patti is the recipient of the 2020 AORN Outstanding Achievement in Perioperative Clinical Nursing Practice award. She has co-lectured at AORN on laser safety and compliance along with being an eChapter delegate for several years.
Patti has also been active in a variety of professional organizations and societies including ASLMS, ANSI, IEC, and ISPAN. She has served as the past Safety and Nursing/Allied Health Board representative to ASLMS. She is the ASLMS Safety Director for the 2019-2022 term. Patti serves as the acting Secretary for the national Z136.3-2018 “Safe Use of Lasers in Health Care” standard. She is also an active elected member of the International Electrotechnical Committee (IEC) TC 76-WG 4 and 12 standards committees. In 2019 she received the distinguished 1906 Award for her work in international laser safety standards.
