Gail Horvath M.S.N., RN, CNOR, CRCST has over 30 years of experience in Nursing, Nursing Leadership, Quality Improvement, Patient Safety and Risk Management. Ms. Horvath joined ECRI Institute’s Patient Safety, Risk, Quality Group as a Patient Safety Analyst in 2012. She works under ECRI’s Patient Safety Organization (PSO) as a project manager as well as performing risk assessments, On site consulting projects for Perioperative Services and Sterile Processing Departments, analyzing event data and developing various resources for clients.
Before coming to ECRI Institute, Ms. Horvath most recently practiced as the clinical educator and Performance and Quality Improvement lead for the perioperative areas at Cooper University Medical Center, a tertiary care center that included Level I trauma designation. Areas of responsibility included OR, CSP, PACU, SDS, CSP, Endoscopy, SPU, and Special Tests units. She held roles on the Patient Safety Committee, the Surgical Performance Improvement Committee, and the Corporate Performance Improvement Committee. Ms. Horvath spearheaded the organizations prevention of wrong site surgery initiative as well as the initiative to reduce the incidence of Retained Surgical Items. She has extensive experience in managing operating rooms and central sterilization departments and holds national certifications in perioperative nursing and sterile processing.
Ms. Horvath has a diploma in nursing from Albert Einstein School of Nursing, an AAS in Information Technology, a BS in Health Care Administration from Phoenix University, and a Master’s Degree in Nursing Science from Drexel University, where her concentration was Nursing Leadership and Health System Management. Ms. Horvath also holds national certifications in perioperative nursing (CNOR) and in sterile processing (CRCST). Ms. Horvath has experience with Root Cause Analysis, FMEA, Cost Based Analysis, as well as the following systems: EHR (EPIC), ORMIS (Centricity), and Instrument Tracking Systems IinstaCount Plus).
