Amanda Heitman BSN, RN, CNOR has been a nurse for almost twenty years and a perioperative nurse for eighteen of those years. She recently established Periop Anew, which provides educational consulting for perioperative services to other educators and ORs.
She has been sharing her knowledge as a surgical services educator for twelve years at WakeMed Cary Hospital. She has successfully taught the Periop 101 residency program with her own specialized curriculum for the last nine years. She is a clinical resource for several services and remains active in the circulating and scrub roles, providing quality patient care. She is a lifetime member of AORN, past AORN chapter president, current chapter board member, and active leader of the Capital AORN Chapter in Raleigh, NC. She has given webinars and podcasts on the importance of educators dedicated to the OR and has been featured in OR Today magazine Wave of the Future, providing insight about MIS and endoscopic surgeries, and a spotlight article. She is also the proud mother of three teenage children, raised together with her husband of twenty years.
