Makiltru Fontenette is the Associate Chief Nursing Officer for Houston Methodist Willowbrook Hospital. She joined Houston Methodist in 2014 and has served in various leadership roles before transitioning to her current role in executive leadership. She is responsible for the clinical, operational, and financial leadership for nursing in clinical inpatient, outpatient, and ancillary services. She also serves as the executive lead for hospitalists medicine and palliative care services. She has been a nurse for over 20 years, and served in progressive leadership roles. She has a passion for training the nursing leaders of today and tomorrow. She collaborates with nursing leaders to set the strategic direction for nursing and ensuring alignment with the organization’s culture and values of integrity, compassion, accountability, respect, and excellence. Her nursing career has been dedicated to creating high quality, reliable systems of care, and developing the next generation of nurses and healthcare professionals to lead through complex times. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center and her Master’s in Nursing Administration from Kaplan University. She completed Coach Rice at Rice University in 2021, a program focused on leadership coaching, developing teams and high potential leaders. She is certified in nursing executive practice. She serves on the board of Houston’s YMCA where the focus is on building strong communities, youth development, and healthy living.
