Professional Biography
Terry Emerson, DNP, RN, CNOR, NEA-BC
Terry began serviing in her current role as the Nurse Manager for the Neurosurgery/Orthospine services in 2010, and has since increased her scope with the Trauma,Transplant, Oncology and Orthopedic services. Terry began her career at the University of Maryland Hospital in 1986 as an ENT nurse, and quickly found her passion in the Neurosurgy Intensive Care Unit..In 1991, Terry began her career within the Johns Hopkins Health system that continues today. She started as an operating room nurse at Francis Scott Key Medical Center, advanced through the clinical ladder and held various leadershp positions during her tenure at what is now Bayview Medical Center. In 2005, Terry moved to JHH to continue her schooling and to move forward within her profession. Throughout her 33 years of nursing, Terry has had the opportunity to grow, to lead and to mentor others within the field of nursing and healthcare. She strives to create an environment of trust and positivity within the workplace by adapting a learner’s mindset. Terry’s passion lies within her love of her family, her team members, and her patients. Terry began her education in 1986 as a diploma nurse from the Maryland General School of Nursing in Baltimore and followed with her BSN and MSN in Healthcare Administration from the University of Delaware, in 2007 and 2012, respectively. Terry is a member of tAORN,and Sigma Theta Tau, Xi-Beta and Nu-Eta Chapters. She has held her CNOR since 1993 and obtained her NEA-BC certification in 2018. She has currently completed her DNP journey at Drexel University with a focus self-efficacy and speaking up for patient safety. Her nursing practice is committed to facilitating the needs of her teams and colleagues to improve patient care and influence the culture of safety within healthcare.
