Josh Wymer has practiced across medical-surgical, post-anesthesia, ambulatory procedures, and primary care areas with his most recent decade of clinical experience spent in perioperative nursing. He currently serves as Chief Health Information Officer for the Defense Health Agency's San Diego Market, a comprehensive health system serving more than 367,000 beneficiaries, as well as Chief Nursing Informatics Officer for Naval Medical Center San Diego and Health Clinics. He holds credentials in perioperative nursing (CNOR), Certified Surgical Services Manager (CSSM), healthcare information and management systems (CPHIMS), nursing informatics (RN-BC), and as a nurse executive (NEA-BC). He is also a Fellow with the American College of Healthcare Executives (FACHE) and serves on the Editorial Board for ACHE’s magazine, Healthcare Executive.
He completed his Master of Science in Nursing, Health Care Informatics, at the University of San Diego and his undergraduate studies at Seattle University. His other degrees include a Master of Science in Project Management from Granite State College and a Master of Arts in National Security and Strategic Studies with an emphasis in Enterprise Strategic Planning from the U.S. Naval War College.
Currently enrolled in the Doctor of Nursing Practice in Executive Leadership program at Johns Hopkins, his project explores the impact of specialty certification in the context of professional development and impact on nursing practice. He is active across the perioperative and informatics communities and currently serves with AORN's Fellow Selection Committee and as Vice President, Board of Directors, Competency & Credentialing Institute, Denver, CO.
