Sonja Furr, BSN, RN, CNOR current role is the Facility Nurse Educator-OR for Atrium Health Pineville, Charlotte, NC. since 3/2016. I plan all educational activities for the OR staff which include annual competencies using the Donna Wright Model, scheduling vendor support for new equipment, collaborating with clinical staff in development of competencies for new procedures. I also assist my AORN chapter with planning educational activities for the chapter to provide CEU's for members, and our annual symposium which is held in February each year. Other roles I have held are: Clinical Nurse III, General Surgery, Trauma, Transplant Service, Main OR, 10/2015-3/2016, Team Lead Education, One Day Surgery 2014, Clinical Supervisor GYN/General Surgery/Plastics in One Day Surgery 2004-2012. Developed written guidelines for infertility program in One Day Surgery. Prior experiences: Staff Nurse Cardiovascular OR 1996-2004, Cardiovascular Recovery Staff Nurse 1985-1996. Have performed educator and preceptor facilitator duties all areas of practice. CNOR since 2008.
I have been nominated for the AORN ballot 4 times. Selected for the ballot for Nominating Committee 2019 & 2020. I am currently active with the following national AORN committees; Clinical Nurse Educator Specialty Assembly as their Communications Chair and the Clinical Nurse Practice Committee. I serve at the state level as the Chair-elect of the North Carolina Operating Room Nurses Council, and locally as the President-elect for the AORN Dogwood Chapter 3403. I have presented 2 posters at AORN Surgical Conference & Expo in the past and presented to the NC/SC Fall AORN conference in 2018; "Nurse Resilency: From New Grad to Expert" which was awarded 1CEU.
