Dr. Katherine Grichnik has extensive executive experience across healthcare including strategic, operational, fiscal, and administrative responsibilities in a variety of settings. She is the Chief of Anesthesiology Services at Surgical Care Affiliates, where she supports strategic partnerships, creates aligned business models, ensured skilled anesthesiology professional services and collaborates to enhance quality of care, facility operational success. In 2019-2020, as President of American Anesthesiology, she was responsible for 43 medical practices across the US. From 2018-2019, she was the VP for Clinical Development and a Medical Director for Surgical Directions Consulting. There, she assisted and supported hospital executive teams to organize, align and optimize the performance of perioperative services, crucial to hospitals' operations and fiscal stability. From 2016-2018, she was the CMO for the Cleveland Clinic’s Indian River Hospital where she managed the medical staff, quality, safety, utilization review, transport and other key programs. Other experiences include being the VP of Quality and Safety for the Mednax National Medical Group from 2013-2016 with responsibility to work with CMS and other agencies, while overseeing quality and safety metrics more than 10 clinical specialties. She is a Cardiothoracic Anesthesiologist who practiced 22 years at Duke University Health System, rising to Full Professor. While there, she also held administrative leadership roles including being the Associate Dean for CME, a founding member of the Duke Patient Safety Center, the Director of the Center for Educational Excellence, and the Director of the Chancellor’s Clinical Leadership Program. Dr. Grichnik earned her MD from Tufts University Medical School, earning AOA recognition. She completed her anesthesiology residency, thoracic, vascular and pain management fellowship training at the Brigham and Women's Hospital. She completed a cardiac fellowship training at Duke University. In addition, she holds a MS in Biochemistry from the University of California, Berkeley, and a BA from Wellesley College.
