Retired- The DAISY Foundation
Cynthia Sweeney, DNP, RN, CNOR, NEA-BC, FAAN, recently retired from her role as vice president of nursing at The DAISY Foundation, where she engaged in ongoing program development and provided the "nursing view" for the foundation’s programs. In her previous role with the American Nurses Credentialing Center, she provided the oversight for the development and execution of educational products and services that support nursing certification as well as organizational credentialing. Dr. Sweeney spent over 40 years in perioperative services in academic and leadership roles. In addition, she served in the Navy Nurse Corps, retiring with the rank of Captain. One of her favorite roles was that of clinical nurse specialist, in which she served as a teacher, mentor and clinician to help staff achieve better outcomes for patients. Dr. Sweeney received her Doctorate of Nursing Practice from The Johns Hopkins School of Nursing. She was recognized by the DAISY Foundation with the title, Vice President for Nursing, Emerita and was the recipient of The DAISY Foundation's Lifetime Achievement Award. She continues to teach as adjunct faculty at the University of Maryland School of Nursing and is involved in ongoing research on the importance of meaningful recognition in nursing practice as well as authoring articles on this subject.
