I have been a leader in the surgical services arena for more than 38 years as a staff nurse, Educator, Clinical Nurse Specialist, Director, AVP and VP/CNO. I am energized by my passion to provide Excellence in patient care and most importantly, to prevent patient harm. I love teaching a different approach to harm prevention. I am actively involved at the bedside in the OR and understand the challenges facing our operating room team. I have developed a team approach to patient safety to include their insight in creating the safest environment for our patients.
I have numerous publications including patient safety and Multidisciplinary Accountability. I have received numerous awards and commendations for my leadership on patient safety to include Nursing Honors for Excellence at MD Anderson Cancer Center.
Our hospital is on a journey to become a High Reliability Organization. Joint Commission aims for health care organizations to reach zero harm through high reliability science through proficient leadership committment, a culture of safety, and continuous process improvement.
