Cindy Vincentz, RN, CNOR, Clinical IV
Her introduction to Healing Touch (HT) in 2002, by a Sister of Mercy, opened her eyes to the world of Complementary Nursing. Cindy realized the journey of becoming a Healing Touch practitioner is learning about energy work and how self-care is essential. Her self-care exploration included participating in workshops like Qigong, Aromatherapy, Heartmath, Prayer/Meditation, Labyrinth Walking and Drumming Circles.
She discovered that heart patients and their families really benefit from HT techniques. So much so, one of those heart patients, a US Veteran, donated two large canvas Walking Labyrinths, central in the Serenity Rooms offered during several AORN Expos. This donor knew the importance of the body, mind, and spirit connection.
When Cindy began her nursing career in 1997, her prayer was to be a surgical nurse and be able to talk about spiritually with her future patients.
While attending nursing school she participated in a program call Working Involvement for nursing students, at the only not- for-profit hospital in Broward County, FL, founded by The Sisters of Mercy in 1955. Her surgical manager recognized her care and skill in the preoperative area, and invited Cindy to attend a perioperative program at a local community college, and she began her AORN membership. Cindy became a member of the open heart team, after her six month orientation program.
Cindy’s pursuit for excellence was recognized by nursing leadership, physicians, and the community. Her Magnet stories of compassion and participation on Magnet Champions team helped lead the way to ANCC Magnet designation in 2007 and multiple re-designations.
The hospital started a Legacy program for The Sisters of Mercy in 2006, of which she became a member. This program led her to a three year Spiritual Director program offered at St. Thomas University in Miami, FL. She is called upon whenever there are spirituality needs by patients and their families.
In 2016 Cindy was nominated and received the Daisy Award. Trained as a Faith Community RN, and advocate first and foremost for her patients, a preceptor and mentor for all kinds of nurses. She humbly call herself a Holistic Surgical RN.
