Sarah Wente PhD, RN, PGMT-BC is a Professional Practice Nurse Lead (PPNL) in Surgical and Procedural Areas and a Nurse Scientist Services for M Health Fairview. Dr. Wente earned a B.A. in nursing from Luther College in Decorah, Iowa, followed by MSN and PhD in Nursing at the University of Iowa, Iowa City. She has worked in the specialty clinical area of perianesthesia/perioperative nursing since 2003. As a research assistant and doctoral student at the University of Iowa Sarah was involved in qualitative and quantitative analysis focused on pharmacological and nonpharmacological pediatric pain management practices. Her teaching experience includes roles as a teaching assistant and adjunct faculty at Globe University teaching undergraduate courses. Dr. Wente is currently an affiliate faculty member at the University of Minnesota School of Nursing and possesses an ANCC Nursing Certification in Pain Management. She has presented at regional and national conferences on pain topics.
Dr. Wente has five active or completed research studies with external and internal funding totaling over $18,000. She has published in peer-reviewed journals and has numerous poster and podium presentations from her work. In her PPNL and Nurse Scientist roles, Dr. Wente has worked with many nurses in developing posters for local and national conferences, in addition to providing education, coaching, and mentorship for research and evidence-based practice projects. She is a reviewer for Journal of PeriAnesthesia Nursing and is a book chapter contributor to Drain's The PACU: A Critical Care Approach, edition 8. She was also a March of Dimes Minnesota Nurse of the Year Education and Research Finalist in 2018. Dr. Wente’s current research is focused on patient outcomes and perioperative/perianesthesia experiences during crisis as it relates to burnout, fatigue, and intent to say in the workforce.
