Barbara Belanger received a Diploma in Nursing at Newton-Wellesley Hospital, Bachelor and Masters’ degrees in Nursing at St. Joseph’s College, Standish, ME and DNP at Northeastern University. Barbara has been a Certified Nurse of the Operating Room since 1993.
Barbara is chair of the Perioperative Sustainability Committee and member of the MGH Sustainability Committee, the MGH Center for Environment and Health, and the American Nurses Association of Massachusetts Report on Nursing Editing Committee. Professional associations that Barbara is a member include AORN, Sigma Theta Tau Gamma Epsilon, ANA Massachusetts, Massachusetts Regional Caring Science Consortium, Practice Greenhealth Greening the OR Cohort, and Alliance of Nurses for Healthy Environments.
A poster completed by Barbara demonstrating a performance improvement nurse-led initiative received a Clinical Excellence award at the 2019 AORN Global Conference and was presented at the 2019 OR Manager Conference. Barbara collaborated with Practice Greenhealth Greening the OR Cohort to complete her 2021 DNP project which focused on promoting sustainability with plastic medical waste. Barbara has presented her work to promote sustainability at MGH and the MGHIHP Climate Change, Climate Justice, and Health Grand Rounds.
