Laura Ortiz Carter has been a nurse for over 18 years in the Greater Houston Area and received her undergraduate and graduate nursing degrees from the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston- Cizik School Nursing, her graduate work focused on Nursing Leadership and Administration as well a Nursing Education. Throughout her career, Laura has worked in various nursing roles and specialties including but not limited to educator roles in academia and the hospital settings, Intensive Care Units, Perioperative settings and in High Risk Obstetrics. Further, Laura is a Certified Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN), and she is also certified in In-patient Obstetrics (RNC-OB), and Electronic Fetal Monitoring (C-EFM). She has won several awards and accolades throughout her career and has presented on various topics on both national and international stages. Currently, Laura works as a Professional Practice Leader at Houston Methodist Hospital located in the Texas Medical Center in Houston, TX. Laura’s professional interests include improving the management and care of High-Risk Maternal patients, multidisciplinary approaches to quality improvement, and rapid response/ code blue initiatives. She also enjoys giving back to the future of the nursing profession in her role as an adjunct nursing instructor in the undergraduate nursing program at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston- Cizik School Nursing.
