Kathryn Aveni, RNC, MPH has been a Research Scientist at the NJ Department of Health since 2002. She holds a Master of Public Health from Columbia University, with a concentration in Population and Family Health and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Virginia. She ensures data system functionality and oversees data analysis for all Special Child Health programs including newborn screening programs (bloodspot, pulse oximetry and hearing), the birth defects and autism registries, and the case management referral system. She also is the project lead for tracking maternal and infant outcomes for cases with COVID-19 during pregnancy. Prior to joining NJ DOH, her experiences included work as a labor and delivery nurse, coordinator of a childbirth education program, oversight of HEDIS reporting for a managed care company and providing educational programs and data analysis for a regional maternal-child health consortium.
