Afua Nyame-Mireku graduated in May 2022 with a Master of Public Health in Global Epidemiology and a Maternal and Child Health certificate from the Rollins School of Public Health at Emory University. She also holds a Bachelor of Science in Public Health Science and a Women's Studies certificate from the University of Maryland College Park. Afua has over five years of MCH experience in federal, local, academic, and nonprofit settings. She was competitively selected for AMCHP's Graduate Student Epidemiology Program (GSEP), an MCH epidemiology internship funded by the U.S. Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). As a GSEP intern, she was matched with the Philadelphia Department of Public Health, where she has been working on a Black infant mortality reduction project and several other health equity projects. After graduation, she hopes to work in a position that translates data into programs to reduce Black maternal mortality in the United States.
