Heather J. Risser, PhD. is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. Her program of research focuses on promoting child mental health by working with parents. Within the arena of telehealth, she focuses on policy and innovative service delivery to improve practice and outcomes. First, she explores opportunities to use telehealth to address new Sexual Assault Survivors Emergency Treatment Act (SASETA) mandates within emergency department settings. Second, she examines telehealth delivery of disability-services such as physical, occupational, speech and behavioral therapies. Third, tests interventions to improve asthma management for youth in foster care. Fourth, she is piloting an expanded family navigation model to build foster parent capacity to manage their youth in care's mental health needs.
