Dr. Lorenzo N. Hopper is an Assistant Professor of Public Health in the Department of Public Health Sciences at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Lorenzo’s areas of research interest include fatherhood, men’s health, understanding and addressing health disparities, and the first-generation college student experience. Dr. Hopper holds a scholarly commitment to conducting community-engaged efforts to reduce health disparities impacting ethnic minorities and other underserved populations.
The common theme across his research and teaching is health equity, which is based on the concept of human rights and equality across all levels of our society. This theme of social justice and health equity connects his passion for public health with a specific interest in improving maternal and child health (MCH) outcomes.
Dr. Hopper teaches public health at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Dr. Hopper has published his research in peer-reviewed journals and plans to contribute to the MCH field through research and to student learning, especially first-generation and underrepresented college students, through his teaching and mentorship.
