Maya Thirkill is an emerging epidemiologist from Chattanooga, Tennessee. After completing her earning her B.A. in psychology at Spelman College, Maya began her Master of Public Health at Boston University School of Public Health, focusing on epidemiology and biostatistics. Her experience volunteering with maternal and child health organizations in underserved communities has shaped her interest in social and reproductive epidemiology. She became a contributing writer for Public Health Post, after becoming fascinated by storytelling as a tool for health literacy and constructing a culture of health. Maya currently serves as an ORISE Fellow for the Maternal and Child Health Bureau in the Division of Home Visiting and Early Childhood Systems.
