Larry Alva is a 30 year veteran of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department and currently holds the rank of Commander. His duties include overseeing the Twin Towers Correctional Facility, Access to Care Bureau and Custody Compliance and Sustainability Bureau.
Larry has had a range of experiences in corrections including supervising criminal investigations in the Los Angeles County Jail, serving as part of a team of sergeants that trained Sheriff's Department staff on use of force policies and documentation, and more recently, serving as the captain of a unit that serves as a liaison between the Sheriff's Department and external monitoring groups, including the Department of Justice and Office of the Inspector General.
Larry also has had a long history with the American Jail Association which includes completing the California Jail Command Academy and the National Jail Leadership Command Academy. Larry has also had the prividedge to lecture at training courses sponsered by the AJA.
In his off time, Larry enjoys reading, indoor cycling, hiking, and traveling.
