Shawn MacMaster is the Assistant Superintendent of Program Services for the Middlesex Sheriff’s Office. As Assistant Superintendent, Shawn holds a command staff position at the Middlesex Jail & House of Correction, overseeing Human Services, Classification, Case Management, Specialized Housing Units, Treatment, Programming, Education, and Reentry Services.
He has worked in the law enforcement community for 23 years, having also spent time at the Massachusetts Department of Correction and the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office. A 1999 graduate of the Massachusetts Corrections Academy, Shawn began his career at the Department of Correction as a Correctional Program Officer. He then joined the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office where he worked for 18 years.
At the DA’s Office, he held various leadership positions under three administrations, including Deputy Chief of the Victim Witness Services Bureau and Director of Community Partnerships. As a member of the District Attorney’s Executive Leadership Team, he oversaw external affairs for the office, including public policy initiatives, outreach and education, community programs, and public-private partnerships. Shawn was responsible for creating four regional, hospital-based Opioid Task Forces while at the DA’s Office, and he forged partnerships across disciplines to develop cross-sector responses to the opioid crisis, including Project CARE, a rapid response trauma-informed intervention for children who witness the overdose of a parent.
Shawn holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Franklin Pierce College and a Master’s Degree in Public Affairs from the McCormack Graduate School of Policy Studies at UMass Boston. Shawn also serves on the faculty of Lasell College where he teaches three Master’s Level courses in the Criminal Justice Department.
