Clint began his law enforcement career in 1990 with the Tracy City Police Department. From there he moved to the Winchester Police Department where he served for eight years. In 1999, Clint was selected as a network coordinator for the Tennessee Governor’s Highway Safety Office after the office noticed his work in the Click It or Ticket Campaigns. While at Winchester, he developed the city’s first Child Passenger Safety and DUI Enforcement program. In 2003 he was promoted to Sergeant where he remained until he left in February 2006 to take the Cumberland Region Law Enforcement Liaison position for the Governor’s Highway Safety Office. Clint was assigned to 28 counties and 85 different agencies. In 2014 Clint successfully ran for the Office of Sheriff and was re-elected in 2018.
Clint is a graduate of the Tennessee Law Enforcement Training Academy and holds his degree in Theology and Criminal Justice Administration. He is graduate of the 109th Session of the National Sheriff’s Institute. In 2017 Sheriff Shrum was awarded the coveted J. Stannard Baker lifetime achievement award for success in highway traffic safety from the National Sheriff’s Association. He holds several instructorships including that of Drug Recognition Expert and currently serves on the Technical Advisory Panel for the DRE program. In July 2020, Sheriff Shrum was recognized by the Tennessee Sheriffs’ Association as Sheriff of the Year. He is a current member of the Association where he serves on the Board of Directors.
Finally, Clint is active in his community serving as the associate pastor of the Living Water Church and has led three mission efforts to Honduras. He is married to his wife of 26 years Eileen and has a 20-year-old daughter Hannah.
