Sergeant of Training and Staff Development
Merrimack County Doc
Boscawen, New Hampshire
My name is Jake Corneau and I am the Training and Staff Development Sergeant for Merrimack County Department of Corrections in Boscawen NH. I have worked in corrections for 13 years and started as a line officer. I spent my first 8 years as an officer working housing units. Since early on in my career I recognized my desire to teach and mentor, which lead me to become an Field Training Officer (FTO) early on. I assisted the training department in the creation and instruction of numerous classes, instructing new and veteran staff and assiting with the New Hampshire Association of Counties Correctional Academy. I tested and was selected as a Special Response Team member in 2012 and worked my way through the team rank structure, achieving Squad Leader and then Tactical Team Leader, a position I hold currently. In 2017 I was promoted to Operational Sergant on Third Shift where I spent 3 years before transfering to a First Shift Sergeant position. As a Shift Sergeant I had the privelage to lead a rotation of 10 officers through daily operations. This is where the study of leadership became paramount, and I realized the responsiblity I had to invest in and empower my staff. In June of 2021 I was promoted to Training Sergeant where I oversee all staff training, recruitment, and hiring. I find it an honor to train, mentor, and help develop Merrimack County Correctional Staff.
