This workshop discusses the various Los Angeles County settlement agreements related to jail overcrowding, use of force, mental health and medical treatment in the jails, release planning, and the handling of disabled and LGBT+ inmates. Participants learn the reasons behind the settlement agreements, the county’s compliance approach, and lessons learned from the largest jail system in the country on how to attempt compliance on monumental settlement agreements.
