This presentation covers the basics of the correctional litigation process. We touch upon common correctional cases, including include inmate deaths, excessive use-of-force claims, and medical lawsuits within the jail. We discuss collection of data for research and analysis, risk management basics, DOJ reporting, CPRA requests, and subpoena duces tecum processing. The Prison Litigation Reform Act (PLRA) and the importance for correctional staff to know its ins and outs is also discussed.
