Changing the Correctional Mindset: Creating a Culture for Recovery

Our communities are being ravaged by the opioid epidemic. Statistics in the state of Florida alone show that deaths from opioids surpass those from fatal car accidents and violent crimes. Those addicted to opioids end up either dead or in jail. Correctional facilities can be a person’s last opportunity before they become another opioid statistic. The journey of trying to help those addicted is not an easy one. However, addressing the issue of addiction has a twofold result. Not only does it potentially save a life but it reduces crime in the community as those suffering from addiction are often the ones who are committing the bulk of crimes in our communities. This workshop provides the foundation for creating a substance abuse recovery program in a correctional facility.
