Natural Disasters come in all forms: flooding, hurricanes, freezing, drought and fire. The impact is especially critical for Jails, which usually have limited options and provide a critical service. County budgets are always tight, and resources are sometimes limited or unavailable when needed. This workshop identifies several historic disasters. We focus on the effects of two critical incidents; Hurricane Harvey (2017) and the Texas Winter Storm (2021), on the Harris County Jail in Houston, Texas. The workshop covers lessons learned, emergency planning, goals during a disaster, Ideas to consider, and employee preparedness.
