Where do we go from here and how do we want to get there? If jail supervisors learn one thing, it is the necessity of a strong, confident, front-line supervisor to drive performance within your organization. Throughout the past two years, many industries—especially corrections—has had to traverse the unknowns of COVID-19, extreme shifts in staffing, an inability to effectively train staff, a severe uptick in the management of mental illness, an increasingly combative inmate population, and a lack of understanding within the community of how jails function in today's society. Unfortunately, when these factors are not recognized, the results are withdrawn, dispassionate, and timid individuals who are leading our organizations. How do we as leaders utilize our experiences and training to intervene, motivate, and empower these individuals to establish what comes next?
