Save Your Staff! Stop Inmates from Manipulating Jail Staff

This workshop is designed to help supervision identify at-risk employees and to prevent inmates from manipulating staff—whether nonsworn or sworn. Participants examine several case studies that reveal how inmates identified and exploited the vulnerabilities of staff. These studies also review the failure of partners and coworkers to recognize the manipulated staff member's behavior and the end results of that manipulation. Shift assignment practices, staff accountability, supervisory span of control issues, and prevention training recommendations are also reviewed.
