The mainstays of therapy in patients with Crohn's diease and ulcerative colitis are immunosuppressants, biologics, and novel small molecules. Many may increase the patient's susceptibility to infections. This session will concentrate on the more common opportunistic infections seen in the IBD population, and review the interpretation of the widely used quantiferon TB blood test.
Learning Objectives:
1. Identify clinical, endoscopic, and histological findings consistent with cytomegalovirus infection.
2. Identify clinical, radiographic and histological findings consistent with histoplasmosis infection.
3. Understand the intepretation of the Quantiferon Gold tuberculosis test results.
